I just updated my sister's site using iWeb. . . it was interesting. It seems very intuitive and didn't take me long to get the hang of it. Although I did get a weird error message when trying to build one of the pages. I was shocked! I didn't think Mac programs crashed, but crash it did and Dave had to go in and fix it. I guess nothing is crash-proof, but the interface has been slick and I loved the friendly formatting. I just can't wait to get the monitor hooked up so I can have a big screen.

There are a couple of things I miss. I miss using the "home" key and it has been driving me slightly nuts without one. I also like being able to double click on an address and have the whole addressed be selected. Overall I feel happy with my Mac.

I’m a Mac
I did, I finally did it. . . I made the leap. I am officially a Mac user.
Our desktop computer is fine, about 4 years old but does what I need. As we are preparing for our trip to Kazakhstan we have been laptop shopping. I need to have one while we are in country, 2 months is a long time to be away and I still need to teach my online classes and have access to email . . .and blogs:)
As we were looking at all the options I realized how much I detest all the crashes and viruses that make my life miserable. Yesterday I think was the final nail in the PC coffin. I was having problems accessing a critical function on my class. I called tech support and they told me it was an Internet Explorer problem, he asked me to open the class in another browser and no more problem.
After years of shaking my fist at “fatal error” and junkie, crashing systems it is time. . . .it is time my friend.
Because I am an educator I got a 5% discount and a free ipod touch, which is pretty cool. We are going to load some Blues Clues episodes on it before our long trip and Spence can enjoy some one-on-one time with Blue on our transatlantic flight.
I will keep you posted. I know there will be a learning curve to adjust to a new system but I think can do it. I will be re-designing my sister website with the Mac software so, it should be an adventure.

To grandma's house we go
It has been a great week at grandma's house. It has been relaxing and a great break for the summer. We arrived, and almost as soon as we got here, Spencer dediced he was going to be grandpa's shadow. He almost got to the point where grandpa couldn't turn around without Spener right there. Spencer would also put on sunglasses go to grandpa and say "cool dude."
One of the highlights for Spencer was taking the train. We took the train from the suburbs to downtown. Spencer loved the train, we also had a seeing eye dog next to us that really captured his attention. (For the next 3 days Spencer kept asking when were riding the train again.)
Once we got down town grandma, Spencer and I all met up with grandpa to check out some of the sites downtown. Then we all went to this wonderful Italian restaurant for lunch. Spencer chowed down on the mac-n-cheese and I had this yummy lobster angel hair concoction. The lighting was dim, the atmosphere perfect and Dianne Krall and Frank Sinatra softly crooning in the background. It was fabulous.
After lunch we went to grandpa's office. (You can see his building in the background.) He works on the 30th floor of this 50 story building. We all got to meet grandpa's co-workers and see his office, his view is spectacular from this office. As we met each person grandpa would introduce all of us, "This is my daughter. . ., this is my wife. . . ., this is my grandson." After meeting several people we walked into an office and Spencer said, "This is grandma, (pointing to grandma.) This is grandpa, (this is grandpa.) This is Spencer (pointing to himself.)" It was great!
Finally on Thursday Dave flew in. I missed him . . . a lot. It was great to be together as a family again. Spencer missed his papa too. Since Dave arrived we have been busy with the technology do-list for my parents, getting their computer updated and getting them familiarized with new software.
We also have been having fun at the pool. Spencer has loved playing in the kiddie pool and getting lots of playtime. I think he might be a little sad when leave the magical land of trains, pools and doting grandparents. We leave tomorrow morning for boring old home.

Road Trip
Last Saturday we packed up Fran-the-Van and headed off on a 9 hour road trip to Grandma’s house.
When we planned this summer vacation last spring it looked like our adoption would be happening in early 2010. As August drew closer it seemed more likely that we could travel by the end of the year. So, we did the math: Dave’s vacation days minus 3-4 weeks in Kazakhstan . . . hmmm not looking good. We made the decision that I would come ahead of him and he would fly in later (so we could save his vacation days for the adoption.)
So Saturday morning my mom, Spencer and I all headed out on the long drive. It has been a great weekend. We got in about 10 PM and Spencer went right to bed. Sunday we had a lot of great family time. Spencer followed around his grandpa and seemed pretty pleased to be his shadow. Grandma also supplied what has come to be known as “Big Truck.” Spencer has pushed this semi-truck all around the house up and down the stairs and has given his doggie and blanket a ride on “Big Truck.”
Dave will fly in on Thursday. Spencer and I have both been missing him and enjoy our daily chats on the phone. Dave has also been busy in our absence with a “Honey-do” list. Last week I painted “little sister’s” room a soft (or perhaps it didn’t end up so soft) pink. We also got a blue paint for Spencer’s room, so Dave has been working on that. I think it looks great. (I will post pictures of little sister’s room once I get her bedding done.) Until then. . . enjoy.

When 10 months = 1 year
I have been working in the nursery (with kids from 18 months to 3 years old) for about a year. I have been spending 2 hours every Sunday with these bright. . . energetic. . . happy kids! I have loved it, but as you can imagine it has been a long year and you kind of end up feeling isolated. As I have been thinking about this last year I realized it has only been 10 months, it just feels like a year.
Last Sunday was my last week in nursery. I have been transferred. I will now be a primary teacher for the 6 year olds. I am really looking forward to the change. Before I was in nursery I taught the 8 year olds, so this is territory I am familiar with. Yippy for a new calling!
But. . . how long with this calling last? I have no idea. I might be the shortest calling of all time. . .
Our congregation has over 800 people (820-something I think. . .) It is getting quite big, too big. Our stake president spoke to us yesterday and said they requested a ward splitting 4-5 weeks ago and he anticipates an announcement and an official new ward created Aug. 30. We will be out of town (visiting grandma) the next two Sundays. So, my first Sunday as the 6 year old teacher will be the "anticipated" date of the announcement of the new ward.
With a new ward might come a new calling. . . I will keep you posted.
