Painting Party
Painting Party! Oh yeah!
My sister just closed on her brand new home! It is so exciting. It is just a lovely home with craftsman details. Now that it is officially theirs there was some painting that needed to be done. So off to Janelle & Chris' new home to get it ready.
It was really fun and we got it done pretty fast. Janelle had to be out of town for a conference this weekend, so I can't wait to see how she likes the paint job.

Glaucoma
You may or may not remember about 2 1/2 years ago I was showing some risk factors for glaucoma. According to my ophthalmologist I had a 1 in 3 chance of developing the eye disease that slowly takes your vision. I have been on eye drops for a couple of years and recently went in for my routine check up.
Not good.
I took my field vision test and it showed that I have lost some vision in my right eye (upper quadrant of my peripheral vision.) I am not sure how to feel. The loss is very subtle, I cannot even tell that I have lost any vision. Once your vision is lost it cannot be regained, so that is why it is so important to stop it once it is detected. So I now have, stage 1 (mild) glaucoma. About 1 in 200 peolpe under the age of 50 have glaucoma.
I am still on my eye drops and in 6 months I will go in again and have another field vision test and exam. The eye drops lower my eye pressure, although studies show that marijuana can also lower eye pressure, should I ask for a prescription? :)
I just kind of feel helpless. There is nothing really that I can do, other then take my eye drops. It is scary to think I could lose my vision. I guess it is good to find out early so that I can take precautions. The disease progresses very slowly and it can take years before a person loses their vision. So, hurray for medical intervention.
I will be sure and let you know how it goes in 6 months.

Fun week. . .
What a week.
We have a great 4th of July week here. Dave had Wednesday off and it almost felt like we had two weekends this week. On the 4th we celebrated my sister's birthday and also the signing of the Declaration of Independence with a family get together. We had shredded BBQ chicken sandwiches, pond scum salad, fruit, potato salad and of course dessert. Instead of the birthday cake we did no bake cheese cake and key lime pie. Yummy.
Then Tiffani and my dad went off to see the beach boys in concert. It sounds like they had so much fun. I would have loved to have been there. I love the music from the era. They wore their Hawaiian shirts and said the fireworks were incredible.
Last week I got to see my sister's new home!
Doesn't it looks great! I just love the craftsman styling. They will close on the house this week and be moving in, slowly but surely. They are currently living in her husband's grandmother's home. So, they will have time to move over. I just loved the whole design.
On Friday I got to see my brother do some Jujutsu, (a martial art from Japan consisting of grappling and striking techniques.) It was great to see him work on some moves and also spare with a black belt.
It was fun to take the boys too. We would like to get Spencer started with Karate and I think he liked seeing his uncle do some cool moves.
Jacob's favorite part was the drinking fountain, and Grandma was happy to oblige.
I think Saturday was the best outing for the family. We went downtown with Grandma and Grandpa to visit the Church history Museum. They have a children's exhibit there, it was interactive and focused on life in Latin America. It was just great.
After the museum we walked through temple square and had lunch at The Blue Lemon. I had never been there before but heard good things. I just loved it. I had spinach ravioli. yummm.
Overall a great week with lots of memories.

Home Again
Well,
We are are home again. It will be nice to sleep in our own beds tonight.
The evacuation order was lifted last night at 6PM, so we headed back home and got here about 7:30PM. When we arrived however, there was no power. We ran to the store to get some of the last bags of ice to hopefully save some freezer items.
Then we headed back to Provo to spent the night. They said the power would be out until at least Sunday afternoon and possibly until Tuesday. Then at around 11PM that night we got a text from a neighbor that the power was back. Yippy! So we headed back home this morning and cleared out our fridge (the milk was chunky. . .yuck) and did some laundry. The house was not smokey at all and it just seems like we had a weird weekend.
Our life is back to normal and we are thinking about our neighbors, less then a 1/2 mile away, who lost their houses, (4 homes were destroyed). Lots to be grateful for. . .
